The Bemidji-Grand Rapids transmission line will
improve reliability for the Red River Valley, Bemidji,
Grand Rapids and north central Minnesota.
The single circuit 230 kilovolt (kV) transmission
line will be built between the Wilton Substation
near Bemidji, Minnesota and the Boswell Substation
in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
Wood H-frame single-circuit structures will be
between 70 and 90 feet tall; distance between structures
will be 600 to 1,000 feet. Steel single pole single-circuit
structures will be between 95 and 115 feet tall;
distance between structures will be between 350
and 700 feet. Typically, a 125-foot right-of-way
will be required.
Minnesota permitting
The
Minnesota Public Utilities Commission must grant
two approvals before construction – a
Certificate of Need and a Route Permit. An environmental
report is prepared by the Department of Commerce,
Office of Energy Security during the need process,
and an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is
written during routing.
